Uzbekistan and Korea: Issues of strengthening cooperation in the field of ecology discussed

In order to implement the agreements reached at a high level between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea, the issue of deepening strategic cooperation in the field of ecology and environmental protection is being actively worked out.

In this regard, a visit of the Korean delegation to Uzbekistan is organized from August 23 to 28, 2023, headed by the President of the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute (KEITI), Choi Hyung Jin.



On the first day of the delegation's visit, an official meeting was held between Deputy Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change Jusipbek Kazbekov and President of KEITI Choi Hyung Jin, during which the achieved level of bilateral cooperation was emphasized, and issues related to the implementation of joint grant and investment projects in the improvement of solid waste management system in the Jizzakh region, strengthening the potential of Uzbek specialists, as well as the development of joint scientific programs and projects were discussed.

At the end of the official part of the meeting, the parties moved on to consider the Technical and Economic Justification of the investment project "Integrated Waste Management in Jizzakh Region", which is expected to be financed by the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) of the Government of Korea. Opinions and comments of experts from the Ministry of Ecology were heard, and an agreement was reached on further joint refinement of the project document.



As part of the visit of the delegation of the Republic of Korea, it is also planned to organize an initial meeting on the implementation of a grant project to improve the management of the Sh Rashidov landfill in the city of Jizzakh, for a total amount of 6.6 million US dollars, exhibitions of Korean environmental technologies, visits to landfills for household waste, water treatment and sewage treatment stations of the Tashkent and Jizzakh regions, meetings with the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Investments, Industry and Trade and the Khokimiyat of the Jizzakh region.
