In order to strengthen the regional position and voice of Central Asian countries in the climate change negotiation processes at the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), a consultative meeting was held at the national pavilion of Uzbekistan in Dubai, UAE, with international observers and negotiation consultants.

The event was attended by Advisor to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan on climate Suleymenova Zulfiya, Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic Melis Turgunbayev, Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection of Tajikistan Sheralizoda Bakhodur and Advisor to the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan Suna Park.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects and strategies for more active participation of Central Asian countries in the main directions of COP28. The meeting agenda included discussions on the progress report, loss and damage fund, climate financing, and the implementation of key provisions of the Paris Agreement.

In turn, international observers and negotiation consultants for COP28 familiarized the participants with key aspects of the discussion sessions.

As a result of the event, it was proposed to develop mechanisms for the formal participation of Central Asian countries as a unified region in climate change negotiation processes.
