Press briefing dedicated to the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-28) took place in Tashkent.

The event was attended by representatives of key governmental and international organizations, as well as members of the media and bloggers.

The purpose of the briefing was to present COP-28 to the media representatives and bloggers for further coverage of the upcoming United Nations Conference on Climate Change, which will take place on December 1-2 of this year in the UAE.

The Embassy of the UAE in Uzbekistan, in collaboration with the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, and the Public Foundation for Support and Development of National Mass Media, organized the press briefing.

Speakers at the briefing included Mohammed Al Zaheri, Deputy Head of Mission at the UAE Embassy in Uzbekistan, Suna Park, Advisor to the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change on International Relations, and Akramjon Fozilov, Director of the Public Foundation for Support and Development of National Mass Media.

Mohammed Al Zaheri delivered a welcome speech at the opening of the event, emphasizing the importance of economic transformation and achieving a Net Zero level in addressing the global problem:

"The UAE has always viewed climate action as an opportunity to make a practical contribution to solving the global problem that affects all countries, while diversifying its economy and creating knowledge, skills, and jobs for future generations within the framework of a Net Zero economy. The UAE was the first country in the region to sign and ratify the Paris Agreement in 2016 and has committed to reducing emissions across its entire economy, as well as announcing the strategic initiative 'Net Zero 2050.'"

In turn, Suna Park emphasized that at the 78th UN General Assembly, the President of Uzbekistan put forward an initiative to adopt a UN General Assembly Resolution titled "Central Asia in the Face of Global Climate Threats: Solidarity for the Sake of Common Prosperity" and spoke about Uzbekistan's planned participation in the global conference.

"In the issues of climate change and environmental degradation, regional cooperation plays a crucial role, as Central Asian countries share most of the environmental challenges. Therefore, Uzbekistan's participation this year in the UNFCCC COP-28 will take place within the framework of a unified Central Asian pavilion - 5 countries, 1 region, 1 voice, and under the auspices and support of the initiative put forward by the President at the UN General Assembly. This decision was made to strengthen the position and voice of Central Asian countries in global climate platforms," the advisor noted.

During the press briefing, Mohammed Al Zaheri presented the concept of the UN Climate Summit COP-28 under the chairmanship of the UAE and provided detailed information about the UAE's initiatives, actions, and achievements in combating climate change. In turn, Suna Park  highlighted Uzbekistan's achievements in the field of ecology, the country's experience in green development, and its upcoming participation in COP-28.
