The Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, Aziz Abdukhakimov, met with Udo Nagel, a German specialist with 30 years of experience in managing zoos.
For reference: From 1992 to 2022, Nagel was the director of the Rostock Zoo, one of the best zoos in Europe. During his leadership, Rostock was recognized as the best European zoo in its category (up to 1 million visitors) in 2018.
At the meeting, Minister Abdukhakimov noted that in recent years, large-scale initiatives have been implemented in Uzbekistan in the field of ecology and environmental protection, particularly in the protection of wildlife.
In turn, Udo Nagel shared ideas for the development of zoos and nature reserves. He gave important recommendations on creating a barrier-free environment for animals to interact closely with each other in winter and summer enclosures, abandoning fences and using strong glass materials, planting coniferous plants on the border of animal containment, organizing a zoo exhibition in the form of "yesterday and today," creating educational attractions that teach applied biology, and more.
Nagel also presented his presentation on the development of zoos and nature reserves in Uzbekistan.
Minister Abdukhakimov noted the importance of studying the international experience of the Rostock Zoo. Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on the exchange of experience for Uzbek specialists in Germany.
The aim of the meeting is to further develop mutually beneficial cooperation in zoos, provide technical assistance in implementing joint projects and programs, increase the potential of industry professionals, and discuss issues of mutual exchange of experience within the industry.
For information: Udo Nagel arrived in Uzbekistan on July 10. During his visit, he familiarized himself with the activities of zoos in the cities of Tashkent, Fergana, and Termez, the Zarafshan National Nature Park in the Samarkand region, and the "Jeyran" nursery in the Bukhara region.
The visit of Udo Nagel to our country ended on 25 July.
