The international event on the occasion of awarding Shakhrisabz the status of the Tourist Capital of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in 2024 has ended.

On the first day of the event, a press conference was organized with the participation of ECO Secretary General Khusrav Nasiri, Chairman of the Tourism Committee Umid Shadiyev, and the mayor of Shakhrisabz, Sherzod Boriev. During the conference, Khusrav Nasiri highly appreciated the tourism potential of Shakhrisabz, and Umid Shadiyev stressed that cooperation with the ECO, in particular giving Shakhrisabz the status of the tourist capital of the organization, will serve to increase the flow of tourists. In addition, it was noted that eco, ethno, and other types of tourism are becoming more and more popular here and are actively developing.

For information: at the IV meeting of the Ministers of Tourism of the ECO member states, held on December 13, 2022, it was announced that in 2024 the city of Shakhrisabz will be awarded the status of the ECO tourist capital.

During the event, the participants visited an exhibition dedicated to the results of the plein air with the participation of leading artists from the ECO member countries. The exhibition featured works by talented artists from Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, reflecting the history and modernity of the ancient cities of Tashkent, Samarkand, and Shakhrisabz.

The international gastronomic festival "Shakhrisabz Culinary Competition" was also held, with the participation of famous chefs from ECO member countries. It was attended by more than 30 chefs, representing the national dishes of their countries. In addition, seminars were held on the organization of the ECO Advisory Council, a plenary session on "Tourism without Borders through the Organization for Economic Cooperation", and B2B meetings, the first international ethno-sports games of ECO member countries, and the International Folk Festival with the participation of folklore groups. Staged performances and lapars were performed at the festival, revealing the national traditions of each country.

It is worth noting that the tour of the majestic "Ak Sarai" complex and the information presented about it and its ancient history made a great impression on the guests.

The most important tourist event in 2024 was the ceremony awarding the status of "Shakhrisabz – the tourist capital of the Organization for Economic Cooperation". ECO Secretary General Khusrav Nasiri presented the certificate to the khokim, Shakhrisabz Sherzod Boriev. The international event ended with the Modest Fashion Show, with the participation of young designers from ECO countries, and a staged cultural and concert program.
