During the 21st session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (CRIC-21), a meeting was held between the First Deputy Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, Obijon Kudratov, and the Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, Abdukodir Mavlodod.
During the meeting, the parties discussed a number of successful projects implemented jointly with the experts from the Ministry and the Committee, including cross-border cooperation along the Uzbek-Tajik border, joint trainings, and seminars.
The importance of regional and transboundary development in the field of ecology, environmental protection, and climate change among the countries of Central Asia was also emphasized, considering the fact that nature knows no boundaries.
In turn, O. Kudratov stated that Uzbekistan is ready to actively enhance practical cooperation between the agencies, taking into account the environmental risks in the region, for the preservation of the unified ecosystem of Central Asia. The parties discussed joint plans and actions within the upcoming 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will take place in Dubai from November 30 to December 12.
Additionally, Tajikistan was invited to participate in the 14th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (COP14), which will be held in Samarkand from February 12 to 17, 2024.
As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached on further development of cooperation in regional platforms within the framework of the signed Memorandum between the agencies.
