On November 19 of this year, a meeting was held between the Deputy Minister of Environment of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Jusipbek Kazbekov, and the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Korea, Han Hwa Jin.

During the negotiations, the prospects for further development and expansion of bilateral cooperation were considered. In particular, it was noted that Uzbekistan considers the Republic of Korea as an important strategic partner.

Additionally, issues such as biodiversity conservation, waste processing, and the restoration of the dried-up Aral Sea territory were also discussed. In addition, it was noted that effective cooperation between the two countries has been developing since the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation in 2010.

During the meeting, it was also highlighted that a framework agreement on ecology was signed between the governments of the Republic of Korea and the Republic of Uzbekistan in May of the current year.

Moreover, the opening of the representative office of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in Uzbekistan and the participation of the Uzbek delegation in the Global Green Hub events in Busan were particularly emphasized.

Information was presented during the meeting regarding the implementation of projects in Uzbekistan for the production of electricity from waste gases generated at the Ahangaron landfill by the waste processing company Sejin G&E So., Ltd., with the participation of the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (KEITI).

The meeting also addressed the solution of local and regional environmental problems, strengthening regional cooperation in the field of ecology and environmental protection, the implementation of innovative ideas, practices, and technologies, the training of highly qualified specialists, and the development of the scientific and intellectual potential of Uzbekistan and the entire region. The establishment of the Central Asian Environmental and Climate Change University, Green University, was also emphasized as a means to achieve these goals in the Republic.

At the meeting, proposals for comprehensive strengthening of mutually beneficial relations were considered and priorities of cooperation were defined.

It should be noted that the work carried out by Uzbekistan in the field of ecology has attracted great interest from the guests.

During the discussions, cooperation between the leading scientific and research institutes in the field of ecology in Uzbekistan and Korea, the promotion of green technologies, biodiversity studies, studying the territoryand tree planting in the Aral Sea region were addressed.

Han Hwa Jin noted that in Korea, there is an opportunity to obtain a master's degree in climate change and to attend short courses in the field of ecology.

At the end of the meeting, Jusipbek Kazbekov invited Mrs. Khan Hwa Jin to the upcoming international conferences that will be held in the historic city of Samarkand, Republic of Uzbekistan. Among them are the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (CRIK21), the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Migratory Species (COP14), and the Climate Change Forum.
