On 20 December 2000, when the Convention on Biological Diversity was adopted, the General Assembly declared 22 May as International Day for Biological Diversity (resolution 55/201). In October 1995, Uzbekistan acceded to the Convention on Biological Diversity. Thus, the state has declared at the highest official level its intentions to protect the biological resources of the environment and use them in a non-destructive manner.
