As part of the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) at the Uzbekistan Pavilion in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, a seminar titled "Journalism in the Era of the Triple Planetary Crisis" was held on December 5th.

The event was attended by the Advisor to the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Suna Park, the Head of Communications, External Relations, and Partnerships of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), Ksenia Skenlon, representatives of the International Environmental Communication Association (IECA), BBC, Earth Journalism Network, "Third Plus" magazine, and other foreign media outlets.

The aim of the event is to create a platform for experts in environmental journalism to exchange experiences and promote best practices in the field in the face of global climate problems.

The seminar discussed the key role of journalism in addressing environmental issues. The participants emphasized the urgent need for accurate environmental information to increase public awareness and ensure transparency on environmental issues.

It was emphasized that journalism is a powerful tool in addressing the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation. Developing this form of reporting enables local media to highlight region-specific environmental issues, ensuring that local voices and problems are represented at regional and global levels.

It was noted that discussions on barriers to environmental journalism and communication are necessary to draw public attention to environmental issues, make scientific data accessible to diverse audiences, and hold organizations accountable for their actions.

During the event, lecturers shared their experiences regarding opportunities and obstacles in environmental journalism and climate communication.
